order to use the training room.  Once registered, you will be given keys and
can use the room based on the schedule below.  Adults registered for indoor
rowing may exclusively use the room during times marked "Adults"; and can also
use the training room during times marked "Open" when equipment use is based on
a first come, first served.  Although, not a requirement, we do encourage
working out with a buddy for safety reasons.  We have five Concept2 indoor
rowing machines (10 machines during the winter), as well as an assortment of
weight lifting equipment.

High School Learn to Row

The High School Learn to Row program is designed to give you the opportunity to experience High School Rowing. The program consists of on land training and two weeks of on water training. On land training start times and intensity vary by school but some start as early as January and train as much as four times a week. On water training begins late March or early April - as soon as the ice is off the lake.

Those from PDCS, SCS and HT  starting in April will all be in one group with the HT leader, Carla Aiken.

With the High School Learn to Row program, you will learn fitness training, rowing technique, equipment and safety. If you decide to sign up for the remainder of the high school rowing season, an additional  upgrade fee is all that is required and information is on the registration form.

You will be amazed how quickly you can learn the basics and how much you will enjoy working out with others who have a similar interest!

Dates:                         Schedules are set by the high school coaches. Contact your school’s Head Coach directly.

Adult Learn to Row
(Row for Heart)2008 2009 TBD

Our Adult Learn to Row program is conducted in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In one on land and seven on the water sessions, you will learn the basic skills of rowing, equipment handling and safety. The program will conclude with a fun regatta where your crew will race against other learn to row crews just like yours over a 500 meter distance. Pledges collected by participants will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and prizes will be awarded.

You are encouraged to enter a crew of five or ten persons – perhaps some friends from your workplace or club. In that way you can train as a member of a crew in preparation for the Silver Lake Row for Heart Regatta – definitely NOT the Olympics! If you don’t have a group, don’t worry! You may register individually and will be boated with a crew of other novices like yourself. This program is an exciting introduction to rowing and a pre-requisite for those inexperienced rowers considering participation in the Adult Recreational Rowing Program.

Row for Heart

Join us for a "life-changing" adventure as you experience 8 weeks of 'Learn to Row' lessons in support of the vital research funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

No experience is required as a full orientation for all crews will kick off lessons the week of May 20, 2008 with on-water lessons beginning the week of May 27, 2008.

As event hosts, Silver Lake Rowing Club will also provide you with the opportunity to showcase your new skills at a final Regatta on July 12, 2008. Regatta participants fundraise on behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and can receive great prizes!

The registration fee is $140 per person and you can register as an individual or in a crew of 5 or 10 people!

Alarmed by the fact that the death rate due to heart disease and stroke in Haldimand-Norfolk is 12% above the provincial average, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Silver Lake Rowing Club have partnered to bring you this exciting NEW event!

Thank-you for helping to find answers. For Life.

Club and High Performance Competitive Rowing

2008  2009 TBA

Brief  history on our club rowing program and it's building success: We bring our best rowers together from across Norfolk and Haldimand to represent the Silver Lake Rowing Club at regattas held during the summer months. The high performance rowing program begins during the high school year and continues through the summer and fall; all the information can be obtained on the document link above.
In 2004, our crews won three silver and one bronze medals at the ROWONTARIO Championships held in Welland.
In 2005 many more medals were won in a variety of races including boating our first junior B and senior B girls quads that managed to win CORA medals.  We were proud to have Laura Fisher make the Junior National team and Anna Ardiel obtain a full ride scholarship to University of Louville in Kentucky.
2006 and 2007 saw a lot of success for some of our largest summer teams yet. Refer to the Hall of Recognition page for details . This is the first time Silver Lake has had a crew (quad) final at Henley 2 years in a row.

CONGRATULATIONS!  TO Laura Fisher for making the  2005 & 2006 junior national team in the womens four.....a first for a SLRC athlete. She is now on a scholarship at Duke University.
CONGRATULATIONS!  TO Ian Edwards, Robbie Puddy and Terry Lovegrove for making the 2007 junior development team and participating in the CanAmMex regatta.

CONGRATULATIONS!  TO Ian Edwards fro making the junior development team and participating in the CanAmMex games again  in 2008.

Thank you to Top Bodies in Simcoe for their spin class (run by Sue Veltri)  support of the high performance rowers in the 2007 and 2008 season.

2008 TRY OUTS :   2009 TBA

  • Mandatory for Sat June 6 and 13th 9am to noon, and possibility of Sun June 7 or 14th in the afternoon so be prepared to attend both Saturday's for sure and possibly a Sunday or two in order to be considered for a crew. AAA is our basis of decision. Good Attitude, Attendance and Ability are critical and feedback from your high school coach on AAA may be part of consideration for summer crew.  There is an extremely short time span to make these decisions so communication with your coach  is key.
You are expected to come to the 2nd try-out session with your summer registration form and fee for summer in case you are selected to a crew.

  • There will be mandatory practice Sat June 20(everyone needs a break from studying).  School and exams are priority. Optional practices set up through the weeks of June will be based around exams of those trying out so timely communication and feedback is critical.

Be diligent in checking your e-mail as it is our main form of mass communication and you are responsible to be aware of all e-mail communication.  Those without e-mail (or a slow internet system that doesn't allow for easy daily checking)  are expected to have a dependable phone buddy from the team to have all relevant information passed on in a timely manner.

Summary in calendar format for practice times and regatta dates click here. 2009 to come. Weekly boatings and workouts are emailed to athletes.

In 2009, qualifying Silver Lake Rowing Club crews will compete at the following regattas on these tentative dates...

  PRACTICE TIMES:
Proposed regular practice times are as per summary below.
Some Club Competitive Rowers may choose to stay after morning practice and volunteer with the Youth Learn to Row and Youth Rowing Camp at 9 AM.  High school volunteer hours can be earned at this time.
Mid week practices in June are booked  around exam schedules as your school work is priority. So stay tuned to e-mail feedback on those practice times that the majority can make. Keep in mind the first CORA regatta is Sat June 28. Communication is the key! Regular practice will begin Thurs June 25th (after exams end...if HT ends up having an exam after that they need to communicate that immediately).
