Fairley Wins Bronze at Philadelphia Regatta
Ross Fairley of Port Dover Composite won bronze in the Boy’s Senior Single event at the 80th Annual Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia on the weekend.
The Stotesbury Cup is the largest high school regatta in North America. Competing in a field of 26 rowers drawn from across the United States and Canada, Fairley advanced to the semi-finals with the fifth fastest time. In the semis, Fairley posted the second fastest time overall. In the final, Fairley placed third – just seven seconds back from first place. Gold, silver and bronze went to Canadian high school rowers in this event.
Laura Fisher of Holy Trinity competed in the Girl’s Senior Single event. She advanced to the semi-finals with a time of 6:45.48 - the fastest time of the day in her event. In the semis, Fisher again posted the fastest time of the day with a time of 6:23.65. However, in the finals, Fisher failed to finish. With more than a boat length lead and just 500 meters left in the race, Fisher capsized preventing her from finishing.
Next week, both Fairley and Fisher will be competing at the US Nationals being held in Saratoga Springs New York.
