Good showing for SLRC crews at the St Catharines invitational regatta
Silver Lake crews got a good taste of what lies ahead at the upcoming provincial championships while racing in St. Catharines over the weekend.
After waiting patiently for thunderstorm storm delays crews finally got to race their final events and saw 4 Silver Lake crews place 3rd.
The under 17 men’s quad of Zac Azzopardi, John Veltri, Marcus Snow and Scott Fairley were 2nd in their heat and 3rd in their final, missing out on the second place by less than half a second.
Kristina Frazer was third in her final in the under 17 women’s single.
Hannah Anderson and Samy Fairley were 3rd in the under 19 women’s open weight pair and also placed 3rd in the under 23 lightweight pair event finals, rowing against fresh crew’s after less than 15 minutes to stretch out after the open pair final.
These crews have qualified and will be racing at the Provincial Championship’s in Welland next weekend.
Also racing well was Robbie Puddy and Terry Lovegrove placing 4th in the under 23 means double heat and 4th overall in the final as well.
Tyler Wilson and Mike Veltri placed 5th in their under 23 lightweight mens pair. These two crews will get to team up for the under 23 means quad at the provincials as well as their small boat events.
Also racing at the provincials next weekend will be Anna Ardiel in her under 23 single and double with Fairley. Chaundra Manorome and Kelsea Parker will also race the under 19 pairs and team up with Fairley, Anderson and coxswain Chantelle LeMoine to race the under 19 four. Parker, Manorome and Anderson will also race under 19 the singles.
This is Silver Lakes last regatta before the premier event of The Royal Canadian Henely Regatta that takes place over 6 days, August 5 to 10th in St. Catharine’s.
