ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE SILVER LAKE ROWING CLUB
The Silver Lake Rowing Club won gold for the first time at the St Catharines’ Invitational Regatta on Saturday.
According to Head Coach Sue Fairley, “It was particularly sweet winning our first gold medal at this regatta in a quad and in a lower age group. It shows we’re developing a good new generation of rowers.”
Caleb McCleary, Eryk Tayler, Josh Azzopardi and Spencer Fraser rowed in ideal conditions to win in the under 17 men's quad event. Other crews racing in the finals had the following results:
4th
Under 19 women's double: Chaundra Manorome, Kristina Frazer
Under 23 lightweight men's double: Tyler Wilson, Mike Veltri
Under 19 lightweight men's four: Charlie Hollander(cox), Zac Azzopardi, Scott Fairley, John Veltri, Caleb McCleary
Under 19 men’s quad: Zac Azzopardi, Scott Fairley, John Veltri, Travis Belanger
6th:
Under 19 women's single: Chaundra Manorome
Under 23 men’s double: Terry Lovegrove, Ross Fairley
7th:

The St. Catharines Invitational Regatta is the last regatta before the Ontario Championships. Crews from across southern Ontario attend and the competition is at a higher level. “Some Silver Lake crews have met the time standards set by the club to compete at the Ontario Championships and will be racing next weekend in Welland” said Fairley. “We expect even stiffer competition and should see some good racing”.
