Sabers and Laker Rowers Medal in Welland
SCS and Port Dover high school crews medaled and three more advanced to the finals at the South Niagara Rowing Club High School Invitational Regatta held on the weekend in Welland.
Sixteen high school crews from Holy Trinity, Simcoe, Port Dover and Valley Heights competed at the two day event. SCS captured one silver and a bronze while Port Dover also won a bronze. The Senior Men’s Quad made up of Dan Beaver, JJ Ferrier, Terry Lovegrove and Dan Beaver placed second in their heat to advance the final where they placed third. Kelsea Parker also from SCS competed for the first time in the Junior Women’s Single event to place second in a small field of entries that did not require heats. Hanna Anderson and Samy Fairley of Port Dover CS captured bronze in the Senior Women’s Lightweight Pair final after placing second in their heat.
Ian Edwards of Holy Trinity won his heat in the Senior Men’s Single to advance to the finals while Kayla Horvat also of Holy Trinity advanced to the final in the Senior Women’s Single event by placing third. Lakers Marcus Snow and Scott Fairley also advanced to the final by placing second in the Junior Men’s Double heat.
