Silver Lake Invitational High School Sprints

The outdoor rowing season was launched Saturday at the 9th Annual Silver Lake Invitational High School Sprints held on Silver Lake in Port Dover. Eighteen high schools drawn from across southwestern Ontario and the Niagara peninsula competed against crews from Holy Trinity, Port Dover, Simcoe and Valley Heights. Saunders Secondary School from London captured the Jenna Stark Memorial Trophy as total points champions and Eden High School from St. Catharines captured the Efficiency Banner.

According to Brian LeMoine Regatta Chair “We had close to one hundred entries. Racing started at 8:45 and went on every eight minutes through to 4:45 just like clock work. Athletes, coaches and officials all did a great job in making this another successful regatta.”

SCS placed third in the overall points category with one first place and three second place finishes. Kelsea Parker and Chaundra Monorome placed first in the Junior Women’s Double. Holy Trinity had two second place finishes and a third while Port Dover had two third place finishes and Valley Heights one second place finish.

Next week, local high school crews will be traveling to St. Catharines to compete at the Head of the Martindale on Saturday and the annual Mother’s Day Regatta on Sunday.
