SILVER LAKE ROWERS WIN GOLD AT ONTARIO SUMMER GAMES
Eryk Taylor and Josh Azzopardi didn’t have much rest after the Royal Canadian Henley having been invited to represent the Southwest District at the 2010 Ontario Summer Games rowing event held in Sudbury on Wednesday. But the few hours of sleep paid off with a gold medal.
Rowing in a field of 36 under 17 male competitors drawn from across the province, Azzopardi and Taylor teamed up with rowers from Guelph and Welland to win the Men’s Coxed Quad event. They had just wrapped up the competitive rowing season at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta on Saturday and had little time to get packed up and off to Sudbury where they came together as a crew for the first time to train briefly before competing. According to Southwest District Coach Mindy Bullen of the London Rowing Club “Our rowers bonded quickly and showed great focus at this event. I was very proud of this team!”
