Largest Local High School Participation at Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships

Local high schools sent the most rowers to the Ontario Ergometer Championships last weekend since the Silver Lake Rowing Club started in 1999.

Sandor Macsai from Valley Heights finished sixth in a field of 72 rowers in the Senior High School Men’s Lightweight 165 pound event with a personal best time of 6:57.7. Coming close to finishing in the top ten along with Macsai was Hannah Anderson of Port Dover CS who finished 11th in a field of 30 rowers in the Senior High School 145 pound Women’s event with a time of 8:06.6. Chaundra Monorome of Simcoe Composite placed 13th in a field of 47 in the Junior High School Women’s event with a personal best time of 802.2

“Overall we’re very pleased with the performance of our athletes. Their training has paid off. More than half performed a personal best and all showed good technique which is going to pay off once we get on the water” said Jim Dover Vice President, Rowing of the Silver Lake Rowing Club. “Last year, our high performance athletes were beating people on the water who had beat them by 30 seconds on the erg. So, I’m looking forward to racing on the water!”

Other rowers from Simcoe CS included Liam Ardiel, Terry Lovegrove, JJ Ferrier, Robbie Puddy, Tyler Wilson  and Dan Beaver. Other Valley Heights rowers included Carla Martens and Brett Norman. Another Port Dover CS rower included Samy Fairley. Holy Trinity rowers included Ian Edwards, Mike Veltri, Chantelle LeMoine and Tim Haviland.

High school crews will continue indoor training and begin training on Silver Lake as soon as the ice is off the water. The first regatta of the season will be the Silver Lake High School Sprints scheduled for Saturday May 5th.
