Silver Lake at Rowing provincials on weekend
Silver Lake had 8 crews in the finals of 10 events entered at the Rowontario
Championships over the weekend in Welland.
Five of the finalists events were races held Saturday and after two
thunderstorm delays of races, the regatta of events held Saturday were
terminated and subsequently all finals were cancelled and crews were sent home
for the day. Missing out on their finals, and some as strong medal
contenders, were Robbie Puddy and Terry Lovegrove in the under 23 mens pair,
Kristina Frazer in the under 17 single, Hannah Anderson and Samy Fairley along
with Chaundra Manorome and Kelsea Parker in the under 19 pair and Hannah
Anderson, Samy Fairley, Chaundra Manorome, Kristina Frazer and Chantelle
LeMoine in the under 19 womens coxed four. This is the first time Silver Lake
has ever had a coxed four qualify through heats to the finals at provincials!
The team returned Sunday for other events and 3 crews were in the finals with
one crew earning a podium finish.
Earning bronze were Hannah Anderson and Samy Fairley in the under 23
lightweight pair event.
Also in the finals Sunday were the under 17 mens quad of Marcus Snow, Zac
Azzopardi, John Veltri and Scott Fairley as well as the under 23 mens quad of
Robbie Puddy, Terry Lovegrove, Mike Veltri and Tyler Wilson.
The final competitive summer season event will be the Royal Canadian Henley
regatta in St Catharines with opening ceremonies Mon Aug 4th and racing from
Tues. Aug 5th to Sun. Aug 10th.
