ARDIEL WINS GOLD IN NEW YORK

Anna Ardiel of Normandale won gold in the Women’s High School Single event at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs New York on the weekend making it a clean sweep of gold medals during the fall racing season.

Ardiel posted a time of 16 minutes 9 seconds over a four kilometer course beating the second place finisher from the Ridley Graduate Boat Club by over fifteen seconds. This was Ardiel’s third gold medal during the fall long distance rowing season. Ardiel also won gold at the Head of the Thames in London Ontario as well as the Head of the Welland. According to Ardiel, “It was quite cold and I had to keep looking at my blades to make sure I was feathering properly. I just couldn’t feel my hands.”

Laura Fisher also competed at the Head of the Fish as a member of the St. Catharines Rowing Club Women’s High School Eight crew placing second - less than two seconds back from first place.

This was the final race of the season for the Silver Lake Rowing Club. According to Coach Susan Fairley, “This year Anna and Laura have proven that you can train on a short course like Silver Lake and come out on top even at the long distance regattas. It’s been a great rowing season!”
