HOLY TRINITY WINS ROWING EFFICIENCY AWARD
Local high school rowers proved their worth on the weekend, winning seven of sixteen events at the seventh annual Silver Lake Invitational High School Sprints.
Twenty five high schools drawn from across southern Ontario participated in a full day of racing on Silver Lake in Port Dover. Saunders SS of London took home the Jenna Stark Memorial Trophy by winning the total points championships. However, Holy Trinity won the Efficiency Award that recognizes the high school with the best point per entry ratio.
According to Jim Dover President Silver Lake Rowing Club, “It’s hard to match a school the size of Saunders in total points when they can enter such a large number of rowers. They virtually entered all but two events and in some cases were able to double up in some. But our high schools matched them in quality.” With six entries, Holy Trinity won three races and placed second in two events. SCS won three races and placed second in one event thereby placing second in the efficiency rating. “We were particularly pleased to see that our Club won five of the eight sculling events” said Dover.
Holy Trinity placed first in the Senior Women’s Four, Junior Women’s Single and
Senior Women’s Double events while SCS placed first in the Senior Men’s Pair,
Senior Women’s Single and Junior Men’s Double events. Port Dover placed first in
the Senior Men’s Single while Valley Heights – a perennial fixture in the Eight
final - placed second in the prestige Eight event and second in the Junior Men’s
Four event. The high school rowing season continues next weekend in St.
Catharines at the Mother’s Day regatta.
