Silver Lake Crews Excel in Difficult Racing Conditions
With two gold and two silver as well as six bronze medals, Silver Lake crews were on the way to a club record medal haul at the Central Ontario Rowing Championships in St. Catharines last weekend when racing was cancelled due to poor weather.
Winning gold in difficult racing conditions were Terry Lovegrove in the Under 23 Men’s single as well as Caleb McCleary and Spencer Fraser in the Under 17 Men’s double. Kristina Frazer and Samy Fairley teamed up in the Under 23 Lightweight women’s double to capture silver as did Charlie Hollander(coxswain), Zac Azzopardi, Scott Fairley, John Veltri and Caleb McCleary in the Under 19 Men’s lightweight coxed four.
According to Coach Sue Fairley, “It was the safe thing to do to cancel racing but it was a shame. We were on our way to a club record and it was exciting for all of our rowers.”
Next week Silver Lake crews will be hoping for better weather in St. Catharines at the St. Catharines Invitational Regatta.
