SLRC boys continue strong rowing in London
Eryk Taylor, 17, of
Simcoe, and Zac Azzopardi, 19, of Port Dover continue to train hard
and represent Silver Lake Rowing Club well while racing in London over the
weekend racing crews from Durham, Peterborough, Toronto and London.
With no event for
their younger age and lightweight category in the mens pair the boys started
the day racing again in the open heavy pair event where they placed third.
Zac then
raced the under 23 lightweight boys single event and placed 2nd.
The duo teamed up
again later in the day to race the open age lightweight double where they
placed 2nd and ended up ranked first amongst all the under 23 crews, matching
last weeks success.
SLRC alumni Chaundra
Manorome was part of the University of Western womens four that won their race
in London.
Some other SLRC
University alumni were racing at the Independence day regatta
in Philadelphia over the weekend where Terry Lovegrove (Simcoe Comp) and Jake
Martens(Valley Heights) were team together representing St. Catharines Rowing
club and won the intermediate mens double.
Other SLRC university
alumni racing and making finals at this event were Ian Edwards (2nd in the
single 500m dash, 6th in his 2k event) and Tyler Wilson (5th in
a lightweight double), both rowing for Guelph Rowing Club.
The SLRC duo and
alumni will all be racing at the Central Ontario Championships in St.
Catharines next weekend.
