Silver Lake Crews Off to Good Start
Crews from the Silver Lake Rowing Club are off to a good start based on results at the first Central Ontario Regatta Association regatta of the inter city rowing season held in Guelph on Saturday
“In the summer, we combine our best rowers to represent the County in competition against rowing clubs from south western Ontario, Niagara and Toronto areas” explained head coach Sue Fairley. “This year, our crews are made up of students from most local high schools as well as athletes returning home from university who were graduates of our high school program.”
Five Silver Lake crews won gold, three placed second and four placed third. Most of Silver Lake's second and third place crews dug deep to pass other crews in the last 250 meters of the 2000 meter race making them some of the most exciting races of the day. According to Fairley “Our crews showed a lot of strength and perseverance. They fought right up to the end of each race.”
