CORA Rowing Championships , bring home 3 more gold, 4 silver for Silver Lake

The Silver Lake Rowing  continued to have success at the Central Ontario Rowing Championships in St. Catharines on the weekend.

Crews raced in their standard categories, with good consistent performances like our under 17 mens quad,  the under 17 single, and under 23 mens double; while some athletes  were challenged to the next level by  rowing up in weight class and/or age class and  others had to compete against our junior national development team members that are currently preparing to compete at CanAmMex games in Oklahoma.

Our under 19 girls four and girls pair had great rows against these junior national development team members and had excellent results in the field of 7 boats placing a very tight 4th in the fours (Charlie Hollander coxing Samy Fairley, Hannah Anderson, Kristina Frazer and Chaundra Manorome) and placing 2nd (Hannah Anderson and Samy Fairley)  and 4th (Kelsea Parker, Chaundra Manorome)  in the pairs event.

In their pair race, Samy and Hannah actually beat out one of the girls pairs that made the CanAmMex team that will be rowing in Oklahoma.

Fairely also teamed up with Anna Ardiel (back from University of Louisville where she is on a rowing scholarship) and they placed 2nd for silver in the under 23 double.  Anna also won gold in the under 23 single.

Showing grit and determination to race well Caleb McCleary along with Travis Belanger finished 4th in the under 17 mens double even after Caleb knew he had an injury.  The medic did not clear Caleb to row his 2nd race so showing great team spirit Zac Azzopardi stepped up to the plate right after his quad race and filled in for Caleb  so that Travis would not be denied his second race. Travis and Zac placed 5th in the under 19 mens double.

Gold, silver and bronze were awarded at the championships.
