Silver Lake Rowers Medal in St. Catharines

Silver Lake crews came away with seven medals at the Central Ontario Rowing Association Championships regatta held in St. Catharines on Saturday. Racing was cancelled early in the afternoon due to poor weather conditions preventing five more local crews from adding to the medal haul.

The Silver Lake Rowing Club continued to demonstrate their strength in the Under 19 Men’s Single category with Ian Edwards placing first while Terry Lovegrove and Robbie Puddy each placed third in separate races during the day. Earlier in the day, Edwards, Lovegrove and Puddy combined with Tyler Wilson in the Under 19 Men’s Quad event to capture bronze. Liam Ardiel, Scott Fairley, John Veltri and Marcus Snow also placed first in the Under 17 Men’s Coxed Quad event. Fairley and Ardiel had combined earlier in the day in the Under 17 Men’s Double event to place second. Kelsea Parker led the way in the women’s events with a second place finish in the Under 17 Women’s Single event.

Also competing were JJ Ferrier, Dan Beaver, Mike Veltri, Samy Fairley, Hannah Anderson, Ross Fairley, Laura Fisher, Chantelle Lemoine, Kristina Frazer, Zach Azzopardi, Chaundra Monorome and Kate Mcmillan.

Silver Lake rowers return to St. Catharines this weekend to compete at the St. Catharines Invitational Regatta in preparation for the Ontario Championships being held in Welland on July 28th and 29th. In the meantime, Lovegrove, Puddy and Edwards have joined the Junior National Team training camp in St. Catharines for a week of training before competing against crews from Mexico and the United States.
