SILVER LAKE WINS ROWONTARIO 2005 CLUB OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Silver Lake Rowing Club was presented the 2005 Club of the Year award at the ROWONTARIO Annual General Meeting held in Port Credit on the weekend.

According to ROWONTARIO Past President Giselle Chiasson, “In 2005, the Silver Lake Rowing Club served as a role model for rowing clubs across Ontario with an impressive record of achievements in all four of ROWONTARIO’s strategic directions: Excellence, Participation, Interaction and Capacity.”

In particular, the Port Dover based rowing club was recognized for athlete performance at major regattas. Silver Lake crews captured 17 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals throughout the 2005 rowing season – including two national championships. Although based in a relatively small community, the club has achieved a high level of participation by offering a full range of rowing programs. In just six years, the Silver Lake Rowing Club has become the 11th largest rowing club out of 47 in Ontario. Chiasson also commended the Silver Lake Rowing Club for having hosted several clinics targeting coach and official development as well as for its partnerships within the community – notably with the Port Dover Lions Club, Norfolk General Hospital and Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“There is no better recognition than by your peers” said Jim Dover President of the Silver Lake Rowing Club. “So many people within the club and our community have made this possible and deserve to be proud. This is a gold medal for everyone who has been pulling together on and off the water for the Silver Lake Rowing Club.”
