LOTS TO CHEER ABOUT IN PORT CREDIT FOR SILVER LAKE’S YOUTH ROWERS
The Silver Lake Rowing Club wrapped up their Youth Rowing Program at the Tops and Bottoms Regatta held in Port Credit on the weekend. Eight out of eleven entries came away with a gold medal.
According to Assistant Coach Sami Fairley “All of our crews raced hard against crews from London, Hamilton and Port Credit. There’s never been so much cheering from the shoreline for Silver Lake!” Tyler Wilson Head Coach explained that the Tops and Bottom regatta is a fun regatta targeting novice rowers of all ages. “We like to use this regatta as the wrap up for our Youth Rowing program. This program feeds our high school and club competitive programs by catering to students entering Grades 7 through to 9. We’re hoping those who enter Grade 9 will be rowing for their high school next spring.”
According to Linda LeMoine Coordinator, Youth Rowing Program “This summer we had over thirty students participating in our program. The largest number in the ten year history of our program. Tyler and Sami have done an excellent job introducing these young athletes to the sport of rowing. By the sounds of the cheering, they had a great time!”
Adult recreational and a few competitive athletes will continue rowing on Silver Lake through the fall. The Silver Lake Rowing Club is also planning to have an introduction to rowing for students in Grades 9 and 10 this fall. Anyone interested, can call Jim Dover at 519-426-5677.
