Silver Lake
Rowing Club Recognized for Quality in Coaching
Rowing Canada Aviron recently announced its coaching award winners and
levels of achievement recipients.
Among them was Sue Fairley of the Silver Lake Rowing Club in Port Dover,
Ont., who has achieved Level 3 coaching certification from Rowing Canada
Aviron. Achieving Level 3 means that Fairley has met the theoretical,
technical and practical criteria for coaching at that level as set out by
Rowing Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada. This year, 17 coaches
received this certification from Rowing Canada, the national sports
organization for rowing.
Sue Fairley's achievements at Silver Lake include coaching the following
athletes:
Fairley received her certificate at Rowing Canada's recent coaches
conference held in London, Ontario. Also at the conference, Silver Lake's
Jim Dover was part of a session that looked at the club's growth and
successes over the past 10 years.
The growth of rowing in Canada depends on its club system throughout the
country, and Silver Lake was presented as an example of how to create and
maintain a successful club in a smaller centre. Rowing is currently ranked
at Canada's number one Summer Olympic sport!
