Silver Lake Crews Medal at Central Ontario Championships
Silver Lake Crews came away with a total of six medals at the Central Ontario Rowing Association Championships held in St. Catharines last Saturday.
Leading the pack of 16 entries from Silver Lake were Chantelle LeMoine and Samy Fairley who won gold in an Under 17 Women’s Double race as well as Jeff Puddy, Robbie Puddy, Terry Lovegrove and Ross Fairley who won silver in an Under 19 Men’s Quad race.
Capturing bronze were Liam Ardiel and Mike Veltri in an Under 17 Men’s Double race, Robbie Puddy in an Under 19 Men’s Single race, Ross Fairley in another Under 19 Men’s Single race as well as Tim Haviland and Brett Norman in an Under 19 Men’s Double race.
According to Coach Sue Fairley, “We were battling some sickness and perhaps could have performed better in some races but we had some fortunate draws for races as well. Overall, we had an accurate showing of where we stand within our region going into the Ontario Championships two weeks from now.”
Most Silver Lake crews will be taking next Saturday off from the regatta circuit to assist with the second annual Row for Heart Regatta being held at home in Port Dover on Saturday July 15th. The regatta is part of a major fundraiser held in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation that benefits both organizations. Everyone is welcome to come down to Silver Lake to watch the regatta. Racing will take place between 9 am and 12 noon.
