SILVER LAKE ROWING GRAD INVITED TO REPRESENT CANADA
Rowing Canada announced earlier this week that Caleb McCleary from Burford has been invited to represent Canada on the CanAmMex Team for 2010.
In making the announcement, Peter Cookson High Performance Director for Rowing Canada noted that “A significant number of present Senior National Team members participated in these events and we fully expect that athletes chosen to represent Canada this year at the Junior level will be future members of the Senior team.”
McCleary began rowing with the Silver Lake Rowing Club as part of the club’s youth rowing program. McCleary went on to competitive rowing with Silver Lake under the coaching of Sue Fairley of Port Dover. Last year, McCleary was offered a scholarship by the private Shawnigan Lake School - a private secondary school located in British Columbia. McCleary placed second and fifth at this year’s Canadian Secondary School Regatta Association Championships in the Senior Men’s Cox Four and Senior Men’s Double events representing Shawnigan Lake School.
McLeary will be training again with the Silver Lake Rowing Club in preparation for the junior national team camp in July. Silver Lake crews are currently rowing on Oakland Pond south of Brantford while Silver Lake is drained for repairs to Misner Dam.
