7 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL ROWERS PLACE IN TOP 10 AND 3 MEDAL AT
RUDERNKRIEG ERGATTA
Seven rowers from Holy Trinity, Simcoe Composite and Port Dover Composite
took part in the annual Rudernkrieg ergatta held in St Catharines over the
weekend. All seven placed in the top 10 and 3 earned medals for placing in
the top 3 or their category.
Robbie Puddy of Simcoe Composite won gold in the senior high school mens
event with a personal best time of 6:25.7. Ian Edwards (HT) and Terry
Lovegrove (SCS) rowed in the same event and placed 5th and 9th respectively.
Mike Veltri of Holy Trinity won bronze in the senior lightweight mens event
with a personal best time of 6:59.0.
Samantha Fairley of Port Dover Composite also won bronze in the senior
lightweight womens event while also achieving a personal best time of
7:55.5.
Also attending and placing in the top 10 were Chaundra Manorome (SCS) who
placed 5th in a field of 20 athletes in her event and Scott Fairley (PDCS)
who placed 8th in a field of 50 athletes in his events.
All athletes who place in the top half of their field are awarded a
Rudernkrieg t-shirt.
Next week these 7 athletes and a few others from PDCS and SCS rowing team
will be taking part in the Frigid Five fundraising run held by Runners Den
in Port Dover while some HT athletes will be taking part in their first
indoor rowing event of the season in Hamilton.
