4 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL ROWERS MAKE TOP TEN CLUB AT PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
Seventeen rowers from Valley Heights, Holy Trinity, Simcoe Composite and Port Dover Composite schools attended the Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships on Sunday March 2 at Ridley College in St. Catharines. 
 
These schools, that row under the Silver Lake Rowing Club, have had the best overall showing since the rowing clubs inception in 1999. Every athlete either performed a personal best and/or placed in the top half of their field.  In addition to that we had 4 athletes place in the coveted top ten placing and earn the Ontario Indoor Championships Top Ten Club t-shirt.
 
Simcoe Composite Schools' Robbie Puddy placed 4th in a field of 55 rowers in the senior open mens event.  Mike Veltri of Holy Trinity Catholic High School also place 4th in his field of 41 rowers in the senior men under 150 pounds.
 
Port Dover Composite School had 2 rowers make top ten. Marcus Snow placed 5th in a field of 149 rowers in the junior men under 150 pounds. And Samantha Fairley placed 8th in her field of 77 rowers in the senior girls under 135 pounds.
 
Other rowers from Simcoe Composite were Liam Ardiel, Chaundra Monarome, Kelsea Parker and Terry Lovegrove. Other rowers from Holy Trinity were Chantelle LeMoine, Jenn Hoover, Gillian Byron, Clayton Shelley, John Veltri and Ian Edwards. Hannah Anderson also rowed for Port Dover CS and Cody Parker rowed for Valley Heights. Tyler Wilson, SCS grad, rowed for University of Guelph.
 
Caleb McCleary also attended the event and placed 10th in his field. Caleb was part of the Silver Lake summer youth program and now attends Assumption College.
 
High school crews will continue with their indoor training until the ice thaws and they can get on the water to train for the first regatta of the season which will be  The Silver Lake High School Sprints that take place Saturday May 2 .
