Fisher Selected to National Rowing Team

Rowing Canada has announced Laura Fisher of Port Ryerse will be among those athletes representing Canada at the World Junior Rowing Championships being held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on August 2nd to 5th.

Fisher is one of eighteen men and women rowers selected from across Canada. She will be competing in the Women’s Straight Four along with Lauren Wilkinson of North Vancouver, Heidi Bulk of Wainfleet and Virginia Kane of London.

Fisher began her rowing career with the Silver Lake Rowing Club as part of the Youth Learn to Row program. She has represented the Silver Lake Rowing Club for three summer seasons and Holy Trinity throughout the high school rowing seasons from Grades 9 to 12. She won gold at both the U. S. and Canadian high school championships this year in the Senior Women’s Single event.

According to Bruce Gibson President of the Silver Lake Rowing Club, “The Silver Lake Rowing Club is extremely proud of, and happy for, Laura. Not only is this an incredible accomplishment for Laura, who has worked so hard to make the team and its stringent standards, but it is also a tremendous accomplishment for the entire Silver Lake Rowing Club organization.  Silver Lake is the youngest club to place one of their athletes on the National Team and it is a tribute to the hard work of the people and the community who have built the club into the success it is in such a short time."
