SCS, PDCS and HT
all have rowers medal at the Canadian high school championships!
For the first time in the 10
years since the Silver Lake Rowing club was formed all 3 schools attending the
Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association (CSSRA) championship regatta had
a crew reach the medal podium!
Rowing for Simcoe Composite
School Terry Lovegrove and Robbie Puddy rowed to a second place finish in
the senior mens double repeating their silver medal performance of last years
CSSRA and are our first double medalists at this regatta. They also teamed up
to row the pair event
Rowing for Port Dover
Composite School Hannah Anderson and Samy Fairley made their under 63kg pair
event final as well as the heavy pair event final.
In the heavy race they place
5th in their final.
In the 63kg pair event they
placed third to earn the bronze medal and Port Dover's' first medal ever at
the Canadian Championships.
Rowing for Holy Trinity Ian
Edwards also advanced to his finals in the senior mens single where he also
placed third to earn his first medal at this event.
PDCS/SCS Assistant coach Tyler
Wilson commented "it is so appropriate to see the three crews that were
medalists from Stotesbury Cup repeat that exact
performance at Canadians"
Also making finals was another
crew coached by Lene Dover of John Veltri and Zac Azzopardi from HT in the
junior mens double where they placed 5th.
The high school rowing season
is now complete and PDCS/SCS and club coach Sue Fairley noted: "as much as
they all deserve some rest and will have a few days, they will now prepare for
the upcoming club season with the first set of evaluation and try-outs this
coming weekend." Club rowing brings all the athletes from the local schools to
row together and form the best teams we can for the summer season which begins
with their first race in Guelph June 28.
