Silver Lake Crews Win Gold in London

Silver Lake crews rowed to three first place finishes at a Central Ontario Rowing Association Regatta held in London on the weekend

The Under 17 Women’s Quad of Samy Fairley, Hannah Anderson, Kelsea Parker and Chantelle Lemoine won gold in a close race to the finish while Anderson and Parker also combined to win gold in an Under 17 Women’s Double race. Dan Beaver and Ian Edwards also rowed to a first place finish in an Under 17 Men’s Double race. The Under 19 Mens’ Quad of Tim Haviland, Terry Lovegrove, Robbie Puddy and Ross Fairley narrowly missed a first place finish battling a crew from the South Niagara Rowing Club in Welland down to the finish line.

According to coach Sue Fairley, “Most of our athletes had better rows this weekend and the wins were the icing on the cake. But there’s still room for improvement and the competition gets stronger as the season progresses.”

Silver Lake crews competed in 11 races overall as the club continues to search for the best combinations. Other rowers included Jake Martens and Brett Norman who competed with Tim Haviland, JJ Ferrier and Shannon Page coxswain in an Under19 Men’s Cox Four place. Jeff Puddy also combined with Terry Lovegrove in an Under 19 Men’s Double race. Competitions continue next week in St. Catharines at the Central Ontario Rowing Association Championships.
